Course Description
This course is designed to teach the Intermediate/Advanced equipment exercises developed by Joseph H. Pilates. The course will include exercises on various apparatus that may include: the Reformer, Cadillac, Electric Chair, Low Chair, Ladder Barrel, Small Barrels, Weights, Wall and Circle. Guidelines for modifications, teaching, cueing, spotting, as well as learning how to design workout programs will also be addressed.
Course Outline:
- Intermediate/Advanced exercises utilizing the Reformer, Cadillac, Electric Chair, Low Chair, Ladder Barrel, Small Barrels, Weights, Wall & Circle.
- Seeing, spotting, and cueing.
- Design and develop workout programs.
- Equipment safety & set up.
- Modifications & guidelines for special populations.
- Homework, quizzes.
Learning Objectives: At the completion of this course, You will;
- Have knowledge of the background and philosophies behind the J.H. Pilates method and system.
- Understand the 6 basic principles; breathing, control, concentration, centering, flow of movement, and precision. And be able to relate these principles to the exercises learned.
- Knowledge of the repertoire of intermediate exercises on the Reformer, Cadillac, Electric Chair, Low Chair, Ladder Barrel, Small Barrels, Weights, Wall & Circle. This includes; proper execution, correct breath patterns, repetitions, and order of the exercises.
- Knowledge of general guidelines for assisting clients with special needs who need to modify the exercises.
- Have the knowledge to develop exercise programs using the system to facilitate improvements with muscular strength, flexibility, and body awareness. And understand how to progress clients at an appropriate pace.
- Knowledge of cueing and spotting techniques to effectively explain and assist with the exercises.
- An understanding of safety with equipment set up and exercise selection.
- With additional practice and preparation, participants have the knowledge to teach the system exercises at an intermediate/Advanced level.
