Course Description
This course is designed to teach the intermediate Pilates' Matwork exercises and is the second in a 3-part series of Intensive Matwork Training. Included are:
- Fundamental "pre-Pilates" exercises for functional stabilization, alignment, and proper muscle recruitment (applicable to the intermediate exercises).
- Eighteen traditional intermediate Matwork exercises with modifications and guidelines for working with special populations.
- Intermediate variations on the basic exercises.¨ Standing exercises for upper body strength/ shoulder stability.
- Guidelines for teaching, cueing, and spotting clients.

Learning Objectives: At the completion of this course, You will:
- Understand the 6 basic principles; breathing, control, concentration, centering, flow of movement, and precision and be able to relate these principles to the exercises learned.
- Understand the fundamental "pre-Pilates" exercises and how these exercises benefit and transfer to learning the Intermediate Matwork.
- Knowledge of 18 intermediate Matwork exercises. This includes proper execution, correct breathing patterns, repetitions, and order of the exercises.
- General guidelines for assisting clients with special needs who need to modify the exercises.¨ Awareness of cueing and spotting techniques to effectively explain the exercises.
- Understand how to pace a class, and safely progress clients into the intermediate exercises.
- Knowledge of standing upper and lower body exercises that are appropriate for intermediate level students as preparation for advanced Matwork.
- With additional practice and preparation, participants have the knowledge to teach at the intermediate level.
Prerequisites:
Completion of Comprehensive Teacher Training Intensives 1.
